Corea del Sur investiga a Google

SEÚL. La oficina de Google en Seúl fue objeto de una redada ante la sospecha de que su filial publicitaria para móviles AdMob había recopilado datos sin consentimiento, afirmó la policía surcoreana.

La investigación sobre la supuesta recopilación de datos sobre dónde se encuentra un usuario sin su consentimiento pone de manifiesto la creciente preocupación por el posible uso inadecuado de información privada, en medio de un aumento del uso de dispositivos móviles como smartphones y tabletas.

Este tipo de información se considera crucial para el incipiente sector de la publicidad móvil, ya que ayuda a personalizar la publicidad online adecuándola a las preferencias individuales o a la localización.

El mes pasado, Apple defendió su uso de los datos de localización del iPhone, pero negó que estuviera registrando los movimientos de clientes, mientras los usuarios del gigante electrónico Sony están lidiando con una violación masiva de datos.

"Cada tecnología tiene los dos lados de una moneda. Los servicios basados en la localización benefician a los consumidores ya que les ayudan a encontrar restaurantes cercanos, gasolineras y otros lugares con sus smartphones", dijo Kim Kwang-jo, profesor de informática del Instituto Avanzado de Ciencia y Tecnología de Corea. "Pero tienen el potencial de violar la privacidad del consumidor. Hay un vacío en los servicios de localización, y las compañías deberían conseguir el consentimiento de los usuarios para recopilar los datos de localización", añadió.

Los ejecutivos de Google han hablado sobre la posibilidad de dirigir la publicidad a los usuarios en base a su localización.

"Tenemos la sospecha de que AdMob ha recogido información sobre la ubicación de los usuarios sin el consentimiento o aprobación de la Comisión Coreana de Comunicación", dijo un oficial de policía de Corea del Sur. Un portavoz de Google confirmó que la policía había visitado sus oficinas de Seúl y dijo a Reuters que la compañía estaba cooperando con la investigación. 

Google adquirió AdMob, empresa líder en publicidad para móvil, el año pasado por 750 millones de dólares. La policía de Seúl también registró las oficinas del portal Daum Communications por sospechas similares, dijo Daum el martes.

Daum afirmó que la recopilación de datos de localización recogidos por su servicio de publicidad móvil no era ilegal, ya que era anónima y no podía ser utilizada para rastrear personas.

Representantes de Google no estaban disponibles de inmediato para realizar comentarios.

La cuarta generación de la telefonía móvil que se acerca

Cada día se acerca más la cuarta generación de la telefonía móvil, conocida como 4G. Los fabricantes de Corea del Sur como Pantech, LG y Samsung Electrónica se preparan para dar este salto tecnológico que promete una velocidad de acceso a la red como mínimo diez veces más rápida a las actuales de la tercera generación. La cuarta generación de comunicación móvil permite acceder a los contenidos y servicios de la red de manera más estable y veloz desde cualquier lugar, con una velocidad similar a las conexiones alámbricas. En 2008, la Unión Internacional de Telecomunicaciones definió la 4G como la tecnología móvil capaz de descargar a velocidades de 100 megabytes por segundo. 

La primera generación se refiere a la era analógica de las transmisiones de voz, mientras que en la segunda se dio comienzo a las llamadas inalámbricas digitales, hasta llegar a la tercera audiovisual. La implantación de la próxima generación de telefonía móvil, el estándar 4G, puede llegar antes de lo pensado. Será una plataforma de conexión que promete transmisiones de contenidos multimedia de alta resolución y bajar en segundos incluso, imágenes y videos en tres dimensiones.

Nuevo remedio para combatir la degeneración macular asociada con la edad

El Instituto de Estudios Tecnológicos Químicos de Corea ha desarrollado recientemente un nuevo remedio para combatir la degeneración macular asociada con la edad, la cual es una enfermedad que puede causar incluso la ceguera y afecta en la actualidad a mas de 11 millones de personas mayores de 60 años. La mácula es la parte de la retina que se encarga del campo central de la vista. Desempeña un rol importante de la vista ya que la mayoría de los nervios ópticos se encuentran allí. La degeneración macular se genera cuando el área de los vasos sanguíneos que irrigan la mácula se ve dañada o por una acumulación excesiva de los desechos celulares en esta zona. La glaucoma, la retinopatía diabética y la degeneración macular relacionada con la edad son las tres causas comunes de la ceguera. La degeneración macular es una de las mayores causas de la discapacidad visual en las personas de más de 60 años, provocada por la acumulación de los desechos celulares, llamadas drusas, entre la retina y los coroides. Existen varios tratamientos para la degeneración macular, desde medicamentos hasta cirugía. La cirugía láser retrasa la progresión de la enfermedad y no revierte los daños producidos de la vista, mientras que las inyecciones intravítreas restauran la visión, pero con la desventaja de ser caras y de requerir generalmente múltiples inyecciones. Esta es la razón por la cual las gotas para los ojos desarrolladas por el Instituto de Estudios Tecnológicos Químicos de Corea se presenta como un remedio más fácil y eficiente para combatir este mal asociado con el envejecimiento.

Corea le hace la contra a Joseph Blatter

La federación de Corea del Sur manifestó este martes su apoyo a la candidatura del catarí Mohammed Bin Hammam para presidir la Federación Internacional de Fútbol, en una campaña en la que el actual dirigente de la organización, Sepp Blatter, aspira a su propia reelección.

“Damos la bienvenida a la candidatura del presidente de la Confederación Asiática de Fútbol, Mohammed Bin Hammam”, declaró en una conferencia de prensa Chung Mong-Joon, presidente honorario de la federación surcoreana y vicepresidente saliente de la FIFA.
   
Los comentarios del responsable surcoreano tienen lugar un día después de que la FIFA confirmara las candidaturas oficiales de Blatter y de Bin Hammam, para una votación que tendrá lugar el próximo 1 de junio en Zúrich.
   
La imagen de la FIFA “no es tan buena”, estimó el surcoreano, que añadió que Blatter falló a la hora de hacerse con el “respeto y el afecto de mucha gente”.

“Blatter sirvió a la FIFA como secretario general y presidente durante 30 años, ahora es el momento de que deje paso a una nueva persona”, comentó Chung Mong-Joon.
   
En una reciente visita por Seúl, Bin Hammam, que el lunes realizó un viaje en Corea del Norte, prometió transformar la FIFA en un organismo transparente.
   
“Me gustaría que la gente viera a la FIFA como la organización más transparente del mundo. Al final, pertenecemos a los hinchas, no a los gobiernos ni a nosotros mismos”, dijo el responsable catarí

This is real! The world of natural dyes

Gyeongnam Natural Dyeing Association in Korea held a six-day exhibition in Kyoto which is said to be a city of vivid traditional culture of Japan. Nine members of Gyeongnam Natural Dyeing Association introduced various kinds of natural dyeing products that were made with passion, which received favorite comments from not only Japanese but also the same industry. Let’s take a closer look at this globally recognized and beautiful field of natural dyeing.

Natural dyes, the solution of Health and environment

In the Three Kingdom period, while the kings and nobles wore the silk costumes which were import!ed from China, commoners began to dress themselves with the naturally-dyed clothes. At the beginning, they used grass and polygonum indigo from mountains and fields for navy, persimmon for dark blue, and charcoal for black. In other words, Korean ancestors wear the nature colored clothes, which are different from the recent clothes with unnatural colors made of the artificial fibers and chemical compounds.

Actually, the naturally-dyed clothes do good to skin. Some clothes with chemical dyes cause anatopic  dermatitis or other skin diseases to some children who have a delicate skin.  However, considering the fact that natural dyes from vegetables are harmless to human and kill the harmful virus, it can be said that clothes save our health.

While the chemical dyes cause serious environmental problems with waste water in dyeing process, natural dyes reduce those damage, which can be said an environmental-friendly dyeing method. In addition, if we make clothes with natural dyes which are extracted from the plants that have unique ingredients or smells to protect them from the harmful insects or animals, it will also protect your body from those. As an example, some ancestors used polygonum indigo as a dyeing material from their knowledge that snakes dislike its smell. Their wisdom of life is just amazing!

Despite the time and hard work, considered a ‘Must Try’ among foreigners

Then, what is the process of making such a wonderful natural dye? The beautiful naturally-dyed cloth can be born only after passing through the 20 manual labor steps, such as boiling, drying, and adding mordant in it. Mordant is an ingredient which helps the color last longer. As it requires a long time and hard work, accordingly the costs rise and become more expensive than the artificial colored-one.

However, as the public interests on environmentally-friendly products increase, the ideas on those products are also rapidly changing. In particular, the experiencing event of natural-dyeing became very popular among foreigners. Moreover, many naturally-dyed clothes are being sold in Jongro area, including Insadong, where foreign visitors mostly visit, and the number of foreigners who come and try the events from a word of mouth also increases. It is said that every single Japanese tourist who is said to have a lot interests on beauty are also impressed with Korea’s naturally-dyed products. It shows that natural dyeing can be worth being one of the representative brands in Korea. That seems enough to enter the global market, considering the Kyoto exhibition which introduced naturally-dyed products at the first on the list.

Korean central government and local government which early saw the potentials have prepared the systematic supporting plan to step forward. Since when the natural dyeing industry was selected by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy as a nurturing business of the local government’s laboratory last 2008, the government finished the preparation to make Gyeongnam Natural Dyeing Association as a core center for natural dyeing industry, and now they are working on it for the development of the field. On the following, ‘Symposium for the Vitalization of the Natural dyeing Industry’ was held in June 2011, and the MOU with Daegu and Gyeongbuk fabric fashion Institute was embedded as well, which actively promotes the natural dyeing industry.

Corea quiere invertir en infraestructura en Paraguay

El jefe de Gabinete Civil del Ejecutivo anunció la intención de Corea de financiar obras de infraestructura en Paraguay. Anunció que ya se iniciaron las conversaciones para concretar acuerdos en el sector eléctrico, aeroportuario y vial.

Miguel López Perito se reunió este martes con el presidente Lugo, a fin de organizar próximos encuentros con autoridades coreanas.

A su salida, comentó que la intención es presentar planes de obras de infraestructura en el país, a pedido del país asiático.

De acuerdo a una reproducción facilitada en la web de la Presidencia, comentó que hay proyectos en el sector eléctrico. “La interconexión es un programa enorme, y eso requiere de una serie de estudios”, refirió.

“Yo, particularmente, no sé qué está hecho y qué falta hacer en esa materia. Está toda la parte de aeropuerto, la parte de rutas, puentes; en fin, hay una serie de proyectos que tienen que ver con el desarrollo e infraestructura”, agregó.
